Not a terribly long time but enough to be frustrated. Parents tend to blame the educator or administrator when their child does something wrong. I have been cussed out on several occasions by parents that believe that I am picking on their child or that their child is incapable of doing wrong. That is like saying a dog will never bite someone. How many dogs have killed children and adults even though they had a reputation of being so nice. No matter how nice your child may be, mine included, anything may happen on any given day. We have lost the courage to be good parents. Parents want to be their child's friend or buddy. A line has to be drawn as to who is the parent and who is the child. This problem, in my opinion, stems from babies having babies. I have had children in my classroom that are eighteen with two kids. Children are conceiving at 12 and 13 years of age. These days you have a grandma that is thirty five and a greatgranny that is 48 to 50 years old. This type of phenomenon is indicative of the problem. It is a cycle that needs to be broken. Until we educate these young girls the right way and stop crushing their self esteem and teach our young men to stand up and be responsible we will continue to ahve this problem. That is one of the reasons I am in education, because I am trying to make a difference everyday I step into my school. It is sad to say that schools have to be the parent now and teach children how to be good people and citizens not of the U.S but of the world.

Times are changing for the oscars

I have watched the oscars with curiosity for years. I used to wonder when African Americans were going to be noticed by the Academy. I have been happy for every person of color that has won the coveted award. However, I wonder sometime if we are being rewarded for playing stereotypical roles. Terrence Howard as a broke pimp rapper and Denzel as a dirty cop that is killed in the end. I am by no means an expert and I am happy that we are being recognized some. Plus we have had African Americans that have won for less common roles. Lou Gosset Jr for An Officer and a Gentleman, Morgan Freeman for Million Dollar Baby, and Whoopie Goldberg for Ghost have all won oscars. Please do not misunderstand my opinion but I would like for my children to see Blacks winning for more positive roles and music.
